How Sacramento city and county residents can save on your next landscape project

City of Sacramento Outdoor Rebate Programs

We all like to save money on our house projects. Looking for that DIY hack on Pinterest or searching for that maximum-saving promo code we can copy and paste online at check out. Or making sure we use the credit card that maximizes points for that trip to Hawaii you want to take next summer.

Being a wise consumer, you may ask, is there a “promo code” for the beautiful landscape I’ve been wanting for my home? That thirsty tired-looking lawn that you can’t stand to look at anymore in need of a refreshing transformation? Happy to report that the answer is yes!

Considering the climate we live in, water is a very precious commodity for Californians. Even with this year’s amazing rain fall and last year’s heavy rain season, California is still in a cyclical state of drought. Plus we are the highest paying customer for monthly water bills in all of the US according to Forbes.  Let’s see where you can save and get cash for your grass.

Not only will a drought-tolerant landscape save you money from your water bill, the City of Sacramento has put together a grass conversion program that can issue a rebate of up to $3,000 for single family properties in Sacramento. You may be wondering, what’s the catch? There are some guidelines, restrictions and rules to follow but all possible to navigate with the help of our team. This happens to be our expertise and being a Sacramento city-approved landscape designer, we’ll make sure your landscape project meets the city requirements for a smooth and easy approval process.

Not a city of Sacramento residence but reside in the county? There are other rebate programs available for you as well. Contact your water district for more information.

Who is eligible for this grass-conversion rebate program?

If you are a City of Sacramento customer:

  • receiving water service at your property

  • and are the property owner or bill-paying tenant with written consent from the property owner

  • with grass currently on your property

then you are off to a good start.

Next up are some important details:

  • To be eligible for a rebate, customers must receive approval from City staff on all projects BEFORE they begin construction.

  • The rebate includes front, back and side yards.

  • This is not applicable if you have already converted your grass to drought-tolerant landscape; a not retroactive rebate.

  • Once your new drought-tolerant landscape is installed it must be maintained for at least five years.

Working with Genesis Landscapes, we’ll ensure this is an easy and smooth process, maximizing your potential rebate. We have helped over 40 homeowners claim this wonderful rebate (see project pictures below) and got you covered for these last few steps:

  • Provide everything you need to submit to the city including the drawing and coverage calculations (you’ll just need to fill out a simple application).

  • Provide one PDF receipt of all applicable material and labor costs to submit to the city.

  • For additional cost and rebate savings, we install a smart irrigation controller for every project.

Easy, right?  There are some exceptions and exclusions but we can work out those details together. Or feel free to check out more information on the grass conversion FAQ page

These rebates are only available while funds last, so let’s get you started today!!
